New technology from Panasonic® for detecting volume level of hearing aids automatically
Panasonic has announced that it is working on the development of a new technology which will benefit people with poor hearing. This technology will help people to hear properly without any distraction from the surroundings. This technology will also reduce the time spent on patients to fit their hearing instruments.
So what kind of technology is this Japanese company working on?
Panasonic is working on a technology called electroencephalogram (EEG). This technology will help in estimating what sound level the patient is comfortable at. EEG is a technical term, which is used for recording the electrical activity along the scalp. Panasonic is working along with University of Fukui and plans to put this technology into practice by April 2015.
This new technology will bring a lot of difference because at present, people with hearing problems have to go through a long process of loudness test to get their ear fitting. They have to listen to different test tones to know their volume level but sometimes the results are not accurate. But with the new technology, it will automatically detect the volume level of the hearing patient, thus bringing accuracy to the result.
With this new technology, people do not have to go through uncomfortable sound testing; the sound will be estimated with the help of EEG. This will help in minimizing the mental stress the patients go through using the conventional method.
Panasonic has already showcased a part of the new technology at the 41st annual meeting of Japanese society of Clinical Neurophysiology, which was held on 11 November, 2010 in Shizuoka Prefecture. The company has already acquired 26 patents for this new technology - 18 domestic and 8 overseas.
