Panasonic will be supporting Pitcher R.A. Dickey and his two climbing mates on their climb to Mt. Kilimanjoro. It will provide the climbers with five ruggedized Lumix digital still cameras and a Toughbook laptop computer. These gadgets will keep them connected to the world through social networking sites, and also document there climb on daily basis.
Dickey said, “I'm grateful to all who have supported this effort and who will, thanks to the cameras and Toughbook that Panasonic donated, be able to follow our journey via social media. It will be an awesome experience and I'm appreciative of Panasonic for providing Lumix cameras and a Toughbook that are perfectly suited for the extremes we will face.”
Dickey had a fascination for Mt. Kilimanjaro since he was a school-going boy. It is the tallest free standing mountain in the world. Through this climb, he wants to raise awareness and funds for ‘Bombay Teen Challenge’, which is a charity organization working to rescue girls from trafficking and sex enslavement. He will be raising US$ 100,000, which will help Bombay Teen Challenge to set up a health clinic in the heart of the red light area.
Dickey further adds, “With their support, we will be able to share this adventure with all of our fans while supporting a really good cause. What started out as a personal pilgrimage, has transformed into a joint effort with Bombay Teen Challenge. My hope is that our climb will help bring awareness to a cause that is in need of attention and support."
