Technology has done much to improve our lifestyle but the downside has been a drastic increase in pollution and e-waste generated each year. In fact the effects on the enviroment have been nothing short of alarming. Even the production of electronic gadgets is hazardous to the environment due to the emission of hazardous waste and through depletion of resources. Many major companies and industries have realized this and are now taking corrective steps to reduce the damage and help save the environment. Panasonic is also taking major steps in re-organizing its TV business by making the process more eco-friendly.
The move to reduce the production of TVs has become a current initiative amongst major companies for a better environment. Hitachi, Sony and Sharp have reorganized their plans for production of TVs in favor of a greener earth. Even Panasonic, according to some reports, will drastically reduce its plasma and liquid crystal display panel productions. The company has not yet commented on the report but the signs are it is moving in that direction. "In our declaration to become the number one green innovation company in the electronics industry by 2018, one of our aims is to expand our energy system. I think that's the main area." said Ms Machiko Miyai, executive officer at Panasonic Corporation.
Not only that, Panasonic plans to underline all segments of the company's business by its concern for the environment. The wakeup call after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster has accelerated the push for a greener cause. "Electricity has its limits. Nuclear power plants are a big issue. Considering all those, life cannot be the same as it used to be. It's what consumers are thinking about. So generating and storing power through solar panels and rechargeable batteries are some of the things people are starting to be more conscious of," said Ms Machiko Miyai. Panasonic will carry forward this plan and expand its concept by creating eco friendly towns-one in Fujisawa city and another in Singapore's Punggol.
Panasonic is also lookig forward to expanding its recycling technology by launching a company in China's Hangzhou City to run a recycling factory this year. It will utilize its recycling technology developed in Japan and will implement it in China due to the problems of e-waste in that country. They also hope to carry forward this recycling technology to other countries as well.
Panasonic must be commended for their efforts for providing a better environment. Such innovative eco- friendly ideas really underlines the meaning of its motto: "Panasonic-ideas for life".
